Coordinating Minister Airlangga Shows Indonesia's Steps To Realize Sustainable Transportation At The ASEAN Summit

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained a number of steps by the Government of Indonesia in realizing sustainable transportation.

Airlangga said this was done through the construction of a number of infrastructures and carried out various efforts to achieve Net Zero Emmission.

He explained that the government has established infrastructure development as one of the priorities in the 2015-2019 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), with the establishment of a National Strategic Project (PSN).

Significant infrastructure development will continue as explained in the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) to realize Indonesia's 100-year strategic vision.

"As part of a major expansion in infrastructure development, the Indonesian government is also committed to achieving Nett Zero Emission in 2060," said Airlangga at the High-Level Dialogue on Sustainable Transport in ASEAN event in Jakarta, Monday, September 4.

He added that Indonesia has also set a target for 2050, where 309 of the 1,000 Metric Tons (MT) of generated energy will be produced through renewable energy such as bioenergy, hydro, geothermal, and solar.

Airlangga also said that the Government had built more than 2,000 km of toll roads connecting commercial, industrial and major housing centers in the country, creating stronger trade value chains.

Furthermore, Airlangga added, the Government has also prioritized the development of the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem with a target of 13 million electric motorcycles and 2 million electric cars by 2030. ASEAN countries have agreed to build an electric vehicle ecosystem and become an important part of the world supply chain. The 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo has also succeeded in producing cooperation agreements with countries in the ASEAN region and issuing the Asean Leaders' Declaration on Development on Development Regional EV Ecosystem.

The Government's efforts related to renewable energy are also focused on the Riau Islands Province through the Main Solar Power Plant Project in Batam-Bintan-Karimun (BBK). It is estimated that throughout the Riau Islands Province there is the potential for renewable power generation of around 30 GW.

As part of ASEAN's commitment, the Indonesian government is trying to build regional connectivity and has been involved in initiatives such as Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Golden Triangle (IMT-GT) which has 36 connectivity projects worth more than USD 57 billion.

ASEAN is a region that is oriented forward through integration with various systems and ecosystem models that are important to meet the needs of the people in ASEAN, the Government in ASEAN, as well as entrepreneurs and scientists, everyone who will make ASEAN one of the main growth machines of this century. While we can see, there are no other regions whose growth reaches 5 percent and inflation is less than 4 percent," concluded Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
