JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that Indonesia's import value in the January 2023 period was US$18.4 billion.

Deputy for Production Statistics BPS Habibullah said this value decreased by 7.1 percent compared to December 2022 which amounted to US$19.8 billion.

"This decline in imports occurred in oil and gas and non-oil and gas commodities," he said during a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 15.

If reviewed on an annual basis or (year on year/yoy), January 2023's import value was 1.2 percent higher than January 2022 which was $18.2 billion.

"January 2023 import growth has increased year on year again after experiencing contractions in November and December," he said.

Habibullah detailed that the largest decline in imports of non-oil and gas goods in January 2023 compared to December 2022 was mechanical machinery/equipment and their parts.

"Meanwhile, the biggest improvement is the electrical machinery/equipment and its parts," he said.

Meanwhile, the three largest suppliers of non-oil and gas imported goods last month were China worth 5.32 billion US dollars (34.24 percent of the total).

Followed by Japan 1.36 billion US dollars (8.76 percent), and Thailand 900 million US dollars (5.76 percent).

"Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports from ASEAN were recorded at 2.51 billion (16.13 percent) and the European Union 1.14 billion US dollars (7.33 percent)," said Habibullah.
