JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) is ready to supply electricity for the Ferronickel smelter factory owned by PT Aneka Tambang, Tbk. (Antam). This commitment was marked by the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) between PLN South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and West Sulawesi Distribution Main Unit (UID Sulselrabar) and PT Antam with a power of 150 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) in Kolaka Regency, Sulawesi Province.

PLN's Executive Vice President of Sales and Enterprise Customer Service, Abdul Farid, said that previously PLN had worked with Antam in East Halmahera. For this reason, he stressed that PLN was ready to meet the electricity needs of the smelter industrial sector.

"We also provide innovative and environmentally friendly products and services such as EBT certificates or Renewable Energy Certificates (REC). Moreover, currently the EBT generators in the Southern Sulawesi system are among the highest in Indonesia," said Farid.

Farid explained that PLN's EBT generators in Sulawesi were above the national average, which was 45.8 percent. Under these conditions, he believes PLN is ready to serve the electricity needs of investors.

He added, the smelter is one of the strategic projects to support mineral downstream in Indonesia. Therefore, PLN is committed to meeting electricity needs and providing the best service for the smelter industry.

“The smelter industry requires a huge amount of electricity. PLN is ready to fulfill it with a reliable, quality electricity supply and competitive prices," said Farid.

Farid emphasized that PLN, as a state-owned company engaged in the electricity supply business, is ready to collaborate and ensure electricity supply to all corners of the country. This is done to encourage the rate of economic growth so as to create a multiplier effect through the readiness of electricity supply for industry and businesses.

Antam's Main Director, Niko Kanter explained, synergy between SOEs is one of the important strategies in downstreaming the mineral industry. In addition, PT Antam itself also continues to make continuous improvements in technology, operational efficiency and decarbonization.

"This collaboration will be beneficial for both parties. I thank you for PLN's support, let's together make the best contribution to the Republic of Indonesia," said Niko.

On the same occasion, MIND ID Director of Operations and Portfolio Danny Praditya, conveyed his commitment to decarbonization and implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) efforts to create sustainable development.

"This agreement is a positive step for Antam and PLN, where PLN gets additional revenue and Antam can focus on managing its operations. Let's continue to collaborate and synergize to be better in order to realize the energy transition in 2060," said Danny.
