Held a Grand Appeal, President Director of PLN Ensures Electricity Supply Without Flickering to Succeed the G20 Summit

JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) deployed 1,079 personnel to provide electricity supply without blinking during the G20 Summit (KTT) which was held in Bali on 15-16 November 2022. This was confirmed by the President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo when he led the grand assembly of the G20 Summit electricity standby post.

Darmawan explained, all of these personnel will be deployed to 62 standby posts and are tasked with maintaining the reliability of the electricity supply, starting from controlling operations, generation, the transmission of substations, and distribution. Not only from Bali but as many as 107 personnel who were deployed also came from outside the Island of the Gods.

"This G20 Summit is an international event that is in the world's spotlight. For this reason, PLN has prepared very carefully and put all its efforts into the success of the G20 Presidency", he said, Tuesday, November 1.

Darmawan ensured that all electricity infrastructure was ready to support international events which were attended by President Joko Widodo along with 40 other heads of state, relevant ministers, and delegates from each country participating in the G20 Summit.

Currently, the PLN power plant reliability system to support the G20 Summit event in Bali has reached 1,422 megawatts (MW). This amount comes from the power plant in Bali of 952 MW, the transfer of electricity from the power plant in Java of 370 MW, and the relocation of the Grati Gas Power Plant (PLTG) of 100 MW.

Meanwhile, the peak load at the time of the G20 event is estimated at only 980 MW. This means that there is a reserve margin of 442 MW.

Later, PLN will supply the main network at five main venues such as the airport, Kempinski Hotel, GWK, and Mangrove Tahura as well as 23 hotels that are the places to stay for the delegates of the G20 Summit, including 6 Covid-19 referral hospitals and also tourist areas.

Then, PLN also reconfigured the 150 kilovolts (Kv) high-voltage overhead line (SUTT), routine maintenance of the high-voltage submarine cable line (SKLT), strengthening the SUTT from the Paiton Steam Power Plant (PLTU) and improving the protection system.

"We also verified our distribution by converting aerial cables into planted cables so that they look neat", explained Darmawan.

To strengthen the reliability, PLN has also prepared supporting equipment such as 102 units of uninterruptible power supply (UPS), 36 units of mobile substations (UGB), 29 units of mobile cables, and 68 units of generators. Then also prepared 2 detection cars, 2 work cars in a state of voltage (PDKB) and 2 inject cars.

"We have also prepared 5 units of mobile generators and 29 equipment as well as 23 operational vehicles", added Darmawan.

In addition, as the host of the presidency, Indonesia will use electric cars as operational vehicles for the G20 heads of state. Therefore, PLN has prepared 66 ultra-fast charging public electric vehicles (SPKLU) charging stations and 200 home charging stations to support the operation of 636 electric vehicles used by delegates and security.

"Currently, we ensure that the operational reliability of the system is 100 percent ready. Starting from the generator, transmission and distribution network, and other supporting infrastructure, they are also operating well", said Darmawan.

During the grand ceremony of the G20 Summit electricity standby post, the operation of the PLTG Grati - Pesanggaran 100 MW was also inaugurated, which was relocated from Grati, Pasuruan, East Java to Pesanggaran, Denpasar, Bali.

Meanwhile, representing the Governor of Bali, Assistant III of the Regional Secretary of the Province of Bali I Dewa Putu Sunartha appreciated PLN's support for the G20 Summit in Bali. As the host, I Dewa Putu Sunartha wants the G20 Summit event in Bali to run safely and successfully so that it can revive Bali's economy and tourism after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The holding of a series of G20 Presidency meetings must take place smoothly, comfortably, safely, peacefully, and successfully", said I Dewa Putu Sunartha.
