The National Oil Reserves Remaining Less Than 10 Years

JAKARTA - Commission VII Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sugeng Suparwoto, is pushing to find new oil reserves such as the Cepu Block.

Because the national oil reserves are only 9.5 years left.

Therefore, Sugeng requested that exploration activities continue to be carried out more optimally to find new oil reserves.

Currently, the proven potential reserves of crude oil are only 4.17 billion barrels.

Meanwhile, for gas, there are only 62.4 trillion cubic feet (TCF). With this amount, the lifespan of Indonesia's gas reserves will last up to 18 years.

"It will take approximately 9.5 years if no new reserves are found as large as the Cepu Block. If no new reserves are found, there will be only that much," he said at the 2022 National Capacity Forum II, at JCC Senayan, Thursday, July 28.

Sugeng said, currently Indonesia has 128 basins that can be explored and exploited for oil and gas.

Of that number, as many as 60 basins have been explored and exploited

"So, there are still 68 basins that have not been explored and exploited," he said.

However, Sugeng continued, the problem is that the remaining 68 basins mostly enter the deep sea.

Thus, it requires large costs to carry out exploration and exploitation.

Therefore, according to Sugeng, certain incentives and disincentives are needed, both fiscal and non-fiscal.

"It goes deeper and gas and gas are found so that in the future it doesn't seem suitable to be called oil and gas but gasmi. SKKK Gasmi. Not SKK Migas," he said.
