Electricity Village Ratio Reaches 96.89 Percent, PLN Commits To Delivering Electricity To 427 Villages In Papua And West Papua

JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) is committed to completing the target of delivering electricity to all villages in Papua and West Papua. Currently, the ratio of electrified villages has reached 96.89 percent.

General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region Moch. Andy Adchaminoerdin said that for 2022 his party has a priority to complete the target of 427 villages with no electricity status. "As of May 2022, 198 villages have been successfully electrified and 229 villages have not," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 26.

According to Andy, the target will be completed in accordance with the development direction that has been set from the start to supply the electricity in Papua and West Papua. "We continue to work on completing this assignment, supplying electricity to all villages in Papua and West Papua," he said.

He explained that there are many challenges in electrifying Papua and West Papua so PLN has a breakthrough by providing technology that makes it easier to distribute equipment, especially in distribution areas.

"We are using PV SPEL (PV module-based Electrical Energy Charging Station) with solar energy-based APDAL (Electricity Charging Equipment)/Talis (Electricity Tubes) to electrify remote villages which are currently being used in 88 villages in Papua and West Papua," he said again.

He added that in addition, in line with the moratorium on the procurement of diesel engines for generators by the government in 2018-2019, his party is now prioritizing the use of new and renewable energy-based plants.

"With EBT-based, it is more environmentally friendly to electrify villages that do not have electricity, one of which is the Solar Power Plant (PLTS)," he said.
