JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province reported that the hotel room occupancy rate or occupancy showed an upward trend.

Head of Central Statistics Agency of NTB, Wahyudin, said there was a significant increase throughout January 2022 compared to the same period the previous year, for both star and non-star hotel categories.

"The occupancy rate of five-star hotels in January 2022 increased 11.18 points to 31.35 percent from January 2021 which was 20.17 percent", he said when giving a virtual presentation some time ago.

Meanwhile, non-star hotel occupancy rose from 13.30 percent in January last year to 14.21 percent this year.

The same is reflected in the number of guests staying. BPS data from the NTB Province revealed that the number of domestic and foreign guests staying at five-star hotels jumped 56 percent year-on-year (YoY) in January 2022 to 48,233 people.

Likewise, guests staying at non-star hotels recorded a slight increase of 1.49 percent YoY in January 2021 to 42,213 people.

"Here we can see the fluctuation that there is an increase", he said.

For information, the West Nusa Tenggara region since the end of last year has been quite busy with mobility activities considering that there are international sporting events. In November 2021, Mandalika International Circuit, located in central Lombok, will host the World Superbike Championship event.

Then in the third week of March 2022, the Mandalika International Circuit again held a world-class motorcycle racing event for the 2022 MotoGP championship. Like it or not, this pair of sports calendars brings its own blessings to local hotel entrepreneurs and the tourism industry in general.
