JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said that Indonesia has a strong consolidation capability to be able to reach an agreement in terms of developing the country. According to the Minister of Finance, this is quite difficult for a democratic country to achieve, especially in the midst of the current crisis situation.

Furthermore, the state treasurer even compared Indonesia with the United States (US), which tends to have complex political interests in setting its strategic policies.

“I am grateful that the DPR and the government have the same vision. Don't waste this moment. We must make this a foundation for this crisis. Not many democratic countries can unite like us. For example, in the United States, they kept the Democrat Party together with the Republican Party. So, their enemies are inside and outside, there are a lot of them,” she said through online channels, Thursday, March 10.

Therefore, the Minister of Finance considers Indonesia to have a unique potential that even the superpowers cannot achieve.

"We are in a situation like this, the democratic system in Indonesia and multi-party still have the same vision to build which I think is a miracle," she said.

As it is known that the government through the Ministry of Finance and the DPR has agreed to carry out reforms in the national tax system. This is stated in the Law on the Harmonization of Tax Regulations (HPP) which was passed at the end of last year.

The HPP Law itself consists of six regulatory scopes, namely General Provisions and Tax Procedures (KUP), Income Tax (PPh), Value Added Tax (PPN), Voluntary Disclosure Program (PPS), Carbon Tax, and Excise.

This regulation is also a concrete step for the government in achieving the target of the APBN deficit to return to a level below 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 after the countercyclical policy at the beginning of the pandemic.

“We all have the same concern to build a better Indonesia. For this reason, this tax reform is to build a better tax system, which is fairer, healthier, accountable and effective," closed the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
