JAKARTA Former Mexican boxer Oscar De La Hoya thinks David Benavidez will win knockout (KO) over Canelo Alvarez if the two boxers get into the ring next year.

Benavidez is said to have the opportunity to fight Canelo in September 2024. Before that Canelo will first take the ring against Jaime Munguia in May.

"I think he [David Benavidez] will hit KO Canelo Alvarez. I'm sure of that," Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV, quoted from Boxing News 24.

"I think Benavidez, because he's young, because he's strong, and he's very versatile and hits a lot, it will create problems for Canelo," added De La Hoya.

Benavidez, the WBC super middleweight interim champion, had to win the duel against Demetius Andrade on November 25 closest to get a chance against Canelo.

Oscar felt that the younger and bigger Benavidez with a record (27-0, 23 KO) would make it difficult for Canelo, who is no longer physically as strong as his opponent.

In addition, Oscar also denied that he did not like Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KO) so he predicted poor results for these reasons.

"Benavidez is a monster. Benavidez throws an average of over 55 punches per round. So, I speak as a boxing expert. I don't speak because I hate Canelo," he said.
