JAKARTA - The main MotoGP Australian 2023 race which was held at the Philip Island Circuit underwent a change in schedule. Bad weather with rain accompanied by strong winds is expected to make Dorna Sport take anticipatory steps.
Dorna Sports Chief Sporting Officer, Carlos Ezpeleta said the decision to change the racing schedule was taken after consulting with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. As of this Friday, Dorna has been waiting to get the best weather forecasts that can be obtained from the official bureau.
"We have excellent references to our tolerance at this circuit against the wind after having to fly the red flag in the qualifying session in 2019," Carlos said, quoted from Crash on Friday, October 20.
Carlos said the situation was not conducive and at risk had occurred when the MotoGP agenda took place in Australia in 2019. Reflecting on this experience, his party does not want the main race situation on Sunday to be similar to what happened four years ago.
Dorna also always said that the safety of riders, the fans who attended and all those involved in the MotoGP event were the main thing. For that, they have no objection to shifting the main race schedule to a more conducive time.

"After meeting with the teams, we agreed to move Sprint from Saturday to Sunday, and then the main race from Sunday to Saturday, at roughly the same time," Carlos continued.
Dorna assessed that it would be more important to hold the main race in a safe condition than the sprint race. All parties have also approved the proposal.
"One thing that has changed from the past is the new format MotoGP, everyone in the paddock is ready for tomorrow afternoon's race. So it's clearly paving the way for a change like this," he said.
