Strike Out Ciro Immobile, Luciano Spalletti Call Premier League Players

JAKARTA - Italian players playing in the English Premier League got a call from coach Luciano Spalletti. However, Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was not included in the Italian squad who will play the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Malta and England.

Premier League clubs are back in demand with Italian players. After the era of Gianfranco Zola to Roberto Matteo, there were no more Gli Azzurri players who had an adventure in the Premier League.

But that trend resurfaced when Newcastle United signed Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. Furthermore, the young AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo moved to Aston Villa. Zaniolo is a talented player who had drowned due to a severe knee injury.

After recovering, he was targeted by elite Italian clubs, one of which was Milan. But what happened was that he joined Villa instead. Both Zaniolo and Tonali still received calls from Spalletti despite playing outside Italy.

Lastly, Tottenham Hotspur's left-back Destiny Udogie, who was the first to receive a call from the national team. The former Udinese player looked charming in the first few matches with Tottenham so he had the opportunity to enter the national team.

On the other hand, Immobile is no longer in the Italian squad. In addition, Mateo Retegui was crossed out. But Spalletti recalled Moise Kean and Gianluca Scamacca.

Not many surprises from Spalletti. The former Napoli coach defended most of the players who beat Ukraine 2-1 and destroyed North Macedonia 11-1 last September.

In the Euro 2024 qualifying match, Italy hosted Malta at the San Nicola Stadium, Saturday, October 14. Next, they flew to England to face the hosts at Wembley Stadium Tuesday, October 17.
