South Korean Defenders Make Matthijs De Ligt Frustration At Bayern Munich

JAKARTA Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly increasingly frustrated with the lack of minutes to play with Bayern Munich at the beginning of the 2023/2024 season. De Ligt's chances are running low following the arrival of South Korean defender Kim Min-jae.

After completing a move from Juventus in July 2022, De Ligt quickly solidified his position at the Bayern defense center. The Dutch international started 38 of his 43 competitive appearances last season, with three goals and one assist.

However, after becoming a regular starter during the 2022-2023 season, De Ligt had to be willing to sit on the bench at the start of this season. Because, Die Roten coach Thomas Tuchel prefers the duo Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae.

The last name was just brought in from Napoli at the heart of the Bundesliga defending champion defense.

As a result, de Ligt's fourth appearance in the Bundesliga this season came off the bench. He was also only a substitute in Bayern's win over Manchester United in the Champions League in the middle of last week.

According to BILD quoted from sportsmole, the former Ajax Amsterdam player was annoyed by the lack of playing time, and his frustration appeared to overflow in the middle of the week. The report claims that the 24-year-old player left the Allianz Arena after failing to enter the field against MU.

Tuchel himself sympathizes with the lack of playing time de Ligt. However, as a coach he only thinks about the team's interest in achieving maximum results.

"Matthijs 100 percent deserves to play. He's fit. Of course, personally he doesn't have enough playing time, but he's a team player. Everyone has to be ready at all times. Matthijs does that, so everything is fine. But there is no clarification conversation with Matthijs, and that's not necessary," Tuchel said.

Judging by Bayern's still unbeaten performance in five competitive matches, De Ligt is likely to warm up the bench again as his team faces Bochum in the Bundesliga.
