Marc Marquez Gives Danger Signal to Honda, Already Has 3 Options

JAKARTA – Repsol Honda racer Marc Marquez will confirm his future in the next three weeks in the middle of the race series in India and Japan.

This was conveyed by the Spanish racer after trying out a prototype of the 2024 Honda motorbike in a post-race test in Misano, Italy. In that test he was 17th at the end of the first session and was one second off the fastest time before finishing P14 in the afternoon.

After the test, the eight-time world champion seemed disappointed with the initial version of the RC213V for MotoGP 2024. The 30 year old racer indicated that there was no significant difference between the 2023 and 2024 RCV.

"The riding style is very different, but in the end the problem remains the same. So, we have to keep working and need to change many things," said Marquez as quoted from the MotoGP website.

Currently, Honda is in quite serious trouble compared to European manufacturers. This problem then means that their riders cannot appear competitive throughout this season.

To solve the existing problems, Honda has also brought in a new engineer from the field of aerodynamics who has experience racing Formula 1. The engineer and the team have started work.

"They have started with this new motorbike and they will start working. They haven't worked on this new project for a long time. Let's see if they can make (real) steps," said Marquez.

The problems faced by Honda have made the topic of Marquez's future emerge again. Since the start of this season, it has been repeatedly reported that Marquez wants to leave Honda.

The signal of departure became stronger again after the racer said that he would decide on one of the three plans he currently has in the next two closest races.

"I know what needs to be done for each of these plans. However, there is not much time. There are deadlines. Around India, Japan, I will decide," he said.

Marquez is rumored to want to terminate his contract with Repsol Honda a year early. According to many reports, the racer wants to move to Red Bull KTM.

However, these rumors were later dispelled after news emerged of Marquez's contract clause with Honda. In the contract, Marquez was also invited to leave, but with the condition that he could only go to a satellite team.

This issue made him linked with two Ducati satellite teams, namely Pramac Racing and Gresini Racing. Gresini is also a favorite because there he can partner his younger brother, Alex Marquez.
