Gvardiol Happy To Get The First Trophy At Manchester City

JAKARTA - Manchester City's new signing from RB Leipzig Josko Gvardiol expressed his joy after getting the first trophy during a starter or appearance from the start which was played fully with his team.

"I feel amazing. The first match and the first trophy," said Gvardiol as quoted from the club's official website, quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 17.

Gvardiol appeared 90 minutes in his team's match against Sevilla at the European Super Cup, an event that brought together the winners of the Champions League and Europa Cup, at Karaiskakis Stadium, Greece, Thursday WIB.

He led his team to the European Super Cup after winning 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at normal time. The match became Gvardiol's second game after signing from Leipzig 11 days ago, after the first was against Burnley in the Premier League which at that time he entered in the 79th minute to replace Rico Lewis.

The European Super Cup was the first trophy The Citizens had won in history, also the fourth trophy the team based at the Etihad Stadium had won after the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

For Gvardiol himself, the trophy is the sixth trophy he won at club level after winning the Croatian Cup Winner 2020/2021 and two Croatian Champions (2019/2020, 2020/2021) with Dinamo Zagreb, and two DFB-Pokal (2021/2022, 2022/2023) with Leipzig.

We are aware that we do not have the opportunity to fight for this trophy every day. We had the opportunity and we took it. We know there is a reason they (Sevilla) are in the final," said the Croatian national team defender.

"They have to know our quality. We deserve it. We can celebrate it," he added.

Gvardiol had the opportunity to register his first start for City in the Premier League when the Manchester United neighboring team faced Newcastle United at home on Sunday (20/8) at 02.00 WIB.
