JAKARTA - An intruder who broke into the field and almost injured Andy Robertson during the Liverpool vs Manchester United match has been arrested by the police. He was later sentenced to a lifetime ban from entering Anfield Stadium.
The intruder entered the field shortly after Liverpool scored against Manchester United last weekend. The intruder ran towards the player who was celebrating the seventh goal against the visitors.
With a fairly fast run, the young man who was believed to be 16 years old then crashed into Robertson. The player then fell down clutching his ankle.
There were concerns that the Scottish player was injured. However, Robertson later managed to finish the match.
Merseyside Police later said the boy had been arrested on suspicion of trespassing onto the pitch.
"There is no excuse for this unacceptable and dangerous behavior. The safety and security of players, colleagues, and supporters are paramount," the club said in a statement quoted by Reuters, Tuesday, March 7.
"The club will now follow the formal sanctioning process and have suspended the account of the alleged perpetrator until the process is complete," the statement continued.
The club added: "If found guilty of the offence of entering the pitch without permission, the offender could face a criminal record and a lifetime ban from Anfield and any Premier League stadium. This conduct was dangerous, illegal, and had severe consequences."

Police said officers were working with the club to deal with the incident. They will process the perpetrator with the appropriate punishment.
"He is scheduled to voluntarily come to the police station in Merseyside in relation to this incident," Merseyside Police said.
Because of his reckless actions, the intruder was escorted away by officers from the field. He also received a reprimand from Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp is said to have looked very angry on the sidelines because of this incident. Even the line judge on duty at the time tried to calm the German manager down.
