Belgium Falls at the 2022 World Cup, Eden Hazard Announces Retirement from the National Team at the Age of 31: One Page Has Turned

JAKARTA - The captain of the Belgian national team, Eden Hazard announced his retirement from international duty. The announcement was made shortly after his team fell out of the 2022 World Cup.

In his latest upload on social media on Wednesday, December 7, Hazard shared a photo while wearing the Belgian national team uniform. In the statement made, he wrote a farewell greeting along with the decision to retire.

Hazard retired from the Belgian national team at the age of 31.

"A page has been turned today. Thank you for all the happiness since 2008," he wrote. "Today I decided to end my career as an international player. The next generation is ready to replace me."

"Thank you for the unparalleled support, thank you for the love," continued the captain.

Hazard made his debut with the Red Devils in 2008. Throughout his career, the Real Madrid player has made 126 appearances in all competitions with a contribution of 33 goals.

His achievement with The Red Devils was bringing Belgium to finish in third place at the 2018 World Cup, after beating England.

In the last three seasons Hazard has often been injured. Hamstring, muscle and ankle injuries kept him out of action with his club, Real Madrid.

Even though he has decided that his international career is over, Hazard will still appear with El Real in the domestic competition considering that his contract still runs until 2024.
