JAKARTA - Formula 1 has now arrived in six races outside Europe starting with a visit to the Marina Bay Circuit, Singapore this weekend for the first time since 2019.

The night race on the highway circuit will be Singapore's 13th Grand Prix since the city nation debuted on the Formula 1 calendar in 2008.

Quoted from Antara, Marina Bay is one of the toughest challenges of the season as the riders beat the circuit with 23 corners along with extreme air temperatures, a bumpy track, and an relentless guardrail, demanding complete concentration and racing skills for two hours.

Arriving in Singapore, Red Bull's Max Verstappen lead 116 points from his main rival, Charles Leclerc of the Ferrari team and he has a chance to seal the world title at Marina Bay.

There were a number of mutations, but basically Verstappen had to win the race and score 22 more points than Leclerc in that race.

He also has to finish 13 points more than his team-mate, Sergio Perez, or six more than Mercedes driver George Russell to get them out of the title race this season.

In the constructors' title fight, Red Bull is in control of the standings with a collection of 545 points, leading 139 points from Ferrari which has 406 points. Mercedes is in third place with 371 points.

The FIA official website noted that Sebastian Vettel became the most successful racer at the Singapore GP by bagging five wins. The four-times world champion from Germany won at Marina Bay in a row while racing for the Red Bull team in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

He repeated his success in 2015 and 2019 in Ferrari uniform.

Apart from Vettel, the three other riders who have won in Singapore are Lewis Hamilton (2009, 2014, 2017, 2018), Fernando Alonso (2008, 2010) and Nico Rosberg (2016).

Mercedes is the most successful constructor on the Singapore track, with four wins, followed by Red Bull and Ferrari who won three times each.

Vettel and Hamilton hold the record for the most pole at Marina Bay. Vettel started at the forefront twice with Red Bull in 2011, and 2013, and was twice with Ferrari in 2015 and 2017.

Hamilton won two poles for McLaren (2009, 2012) and two others with Mercedes (2014, 2018).

Singapore's leading start has proven crucial after eight of the 12 races there were won by the driver who started from pole position.

Meanwhile, four Singapore GPs were won not by polesifiers, namely when Alonso won from P15 in 2008, Vettel from P3 in 2012, Hamilton from P5 in 2017, and Vettel from P3 in 2019.

Fernando Alonso this weekend will set a record 350th grand Prix start in his career, beating Kimi Raikkonen's (349) record. Rubens Barrichello is in third place with 322 starts.

Meanwhile, a number of drivers who will debut in Singapore will be Nicholas Latifi, Zhou Guanyu, Yuki Tsunoda, and Mick Schumacher.
