JAKARTA - Former Manchester United (MU) midfielder Paul Scholes advised England coach Gareth Southgate to re-consider the player who will be called up to the team. Scholes considers Jadon Sancho more competent than Manchester City's Jack Grealish, who was Southgate's choice.

"Gareth (Southgate) chose his players for a reason, maybe from the previous squad", Scholes told BT Sport as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

Quoted from the same source, on Thursday, September 15, Gareth Southgate announced the players in his squad for the matches against Italy and Germany in the UEFA Nations League at the end of September. Southgate did not include Sancho, but this name is expected to be recalled later.

Southgate's decision to ignore Sancho came as a surprise. Scholes insisted that Sancho deserved a place more than Grealish.

So far Grealish has not scored or provided a single assist for City.

"I think he (Sancho) probably deserves to be above Jack Grealish at the moment. He scored a good goal against Liverpool and showed signs tonight. He was better when he came on and connected the game", said Scholes.

"He doesn't have that thrilling pace to get past someone outside or inside. When he was good at Dortmund, he had (Erling) Haaland, (Achraf) Hakimi, he always had someone to connect with."

"At Manchester United, if he can be linked with Fernandes or Eriksen, who are smart players to link up with, he can be a good player."
