JAKARTA - Australian rider Remy Gardner will move to the paddock to World Superbike next year after finishing the season as a rookie in MotoGP.

Gardner finally found clarity about his future after the Tech3 team KTM did not want his services to strengthen them again next season when the team changed main sponsors to GASGAS, who have now secured a seat for Pol Espargaro.

Garner, who is the 2021 Moto2 world champion, has now been hired by the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, replacing Garrett Gerloff who joined the Bonovo Action BMW team.

"We are of course very happy to have a rider who shows not only great progress but also experience at the top level of motorcycle racing", said Andrea Dosoli, Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing manager.

"We believe he is the best fit for Yamaha's WorldSBK program and we are eager to see what he can do on our R1 WorldSBK engine."

Remy is the son of Wayne Gardner who became an Australian hero by winning the 1987 500cc world title.

Remy himself made his world championship debut when he entered Moto3 in 2014 before moving up to Moto2 in 2016.

2021 became the year when Gardner's name returned to the top of the championship standings, with consistent performances plus five wins, Remy was able to win the world title from his teammate, Raul Fernandez, who packed eight wins but without consistent performances, coupled with 3 DNF.

As a MotoGP rookie so far Garnder has only finished four times with points but has never finished a race in the top ten.
