Mauricio Pochettino Speaks Up After A Long Silence: PSG Is Too Obsessed With Winning The European Champions League

JAKARTA - Mauricio Pochettino said Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was very ambitious to win the European Champions League title. That's what makes the French Ligue 1 club sometimes impatient.

The Argentine coach was sacked by PSG in early July. His position was then replaced by Christophe Galtier.

The dismissal was carried out because the former Tottenham Hotspur boss was considered a failure even though he had presented a domestic trophy. That failure is not winning the European Champions League.

Pochettino admitted that he regretted the attitude of the top brass of Les Parisiens. According to him, their ambition to win the European Champions League is too big so sometimes they want things to happen quickly.

"Everything at PSG is focused on the European Champions League and sometimes it can be a little annoying," Pochettino told Argentine media outlet Infobae, quoted by Marca.

PSG is one of the favorite squad to win the European Champions League last season. However, their move actually finished in the last 16 after losing on aggregate to Real Madrid in two two-legged matches.

The defeat made Pochettino's fate in the coach's seat vanish. In fact, he has helped the team lift a number of trophies in domestic competitions during his career at PSG.

"The demands seem to exist only in preparation for European matches and other competitions being left alone because of PSG's advantage," he said.

"The Champions League is an obsession and not winning the Champions League is the same as failing," added the 50-year-old coach.

Mauricio Pochettino currently has not received a job offer from another team. He was linked with Manchester United before the club appointed Erik ten Hag to fill the role of interim coach Ralf Rangnick.
