Liliyana Natsir's Outstanding Achievements During Her Time In Badminton Lead Her To The BWF Hall Of Fame

JAKARTA – Indonesian mixed doubles legend Liliyana Natsir has been inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame. This is thanks to his achievements during his time in the badminton world.

Natsir won four mixed doubles World Championship titles with two different partners. He then reached a career high by winning mixed doubles gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

"It is a rare honor for an athlete to be inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame, and Liliyana Natsir is very deserving of this award," said BWF President Poul-Erik Hoyer.

During her career in badminton, Liliyana was paired with Nova Widianto and Tontowi Ahmad. With Nova he won the World Championship title in 2005.

The duo had outstanding achievements the following year by winning the World Cup and the Asian Championship. Then another World Championship gold in 2007 before winning silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Liliyana was then paired with Tontowi Ahmad and the two quickly formed a fairly strong partnership. Quick adaptation with a new partner made Liliyana win several other important titles.

Tontowi's first title was a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships before surpassing that at the 2013 World Championships, taking gold from two match points in the final, and the 2017 World Championships.

In addition to the most important Gold title at the Olympics, Liliyana/Tontowi also recorded winning three lucky titles at the All England championship.

"She is one of the best mixed doubles players of her career. With Olympic gold and silver medals, and four World Championship gold medals, Liliyana is setting a resplendent record," said Hoyer.

"He's fun to watch because he somehow makes really difficult moves look easy. I congratulate him for making the BWF Hall of Fame, and I'm sure he will continue to inspire more generations."
