JAKARTA – Kylian Mbappe says the dream of one day playing for Real Madrid never ends despite having chosen to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old French striker turned down a move to the Spanish champions this weekend after signing a new three-year contract with the French giants.

However, he did not rule out the possibility of a move to El Real at a later date. For him, the desire to wear the club's uniform from the Spanish capital has not ended at all.

"You never know what could happen in the future," he said as quoted by BBC Sport.

"I gave up thinking about the future, I only think about the present and the present is that I signed a new contract for three more years at Paris St-Germain."

Mbappe's decision to stay at PSG received an unpleasant reaction from La Liga. Spanish La Liga president Javier Tebas even called the new contract negotiations a scandal.

Mbappe said he spoke directly to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to inform him of his decision before signing a contract extension at PSG.

"It was last week I made the decision to stay. First of all I spoke with the president of Real Madrid because I have a lot of respect for him and the club. I think it is important to say personally that I am not leaving," he said.

The 2018 Russia World Cup winner reportedly received a bonus extending a contract worth 300 million Euros (IDR 4.7 trillion) from PSG. He will also earn a net salary of 100 million Euros (IDR 1.5 trillion) per year.

However, Mbappe emphasized that his decision to stay was not a matter of the large amount of money he received, but for other more important reasons.

"Leaving my country is not right. There is a sentimental aspect to this. This is my country. Ongoing projects are changing as well. It made me want to stay here because I thought my story was not finished," he said.
