Indonesia Locks Tickets For The 2022 Thomas Cup Quarter-Finals After Beating Thailand 4-1

JAKARTA - Indonesia successfully won 4-1 over Thailand in the second match of Group A of the 2022 Thomas Cup. This victory made the Red and White squad secure a ticket to the quarter-finals.

The duel of Indonesia versus Thailand was presented at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday, May 9 evening. Indonesia lost the first point in the men's singles to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting before getting four other wins.

In the first match, Anthony was fielded against Kunlavut Vitidsarn. The Indonesian representative was defeated in the rubber set 12-21, 21-15, and 9-21.

"It's sad that I couldn't win and score points. The match was also tight from the start. In the third game when I changed fields, I was far behind. When I wanted to catch up, the opponent was confident," said Anthony after the match.

Veteran men's doubles pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Setiawan then equalized 1-1 with the hosts in the second match.

The men's doubles, which is ranked second in the world, won over Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn/Nanthakarn Yordphaisong after going through a dramatic three-set match.

Indonesia then succeeded in widening the numbers in the third match through Jonathan Christie. The men's singles, ranked eighth in the world, won in straight sets over Kantaphon Wangcharoen to make the Red and White team lead 2-1.

Victory for Indonesia was then confirmed in the third match between Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Bagas Maulana against Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul.

Kevin/Bagas managed to bend their opponent through the match in straight sets. The pair had a difficult time in the first set which ended with a score of 24-22 before winning easily 21-11 in the second set to bring Indonesia to a 3-1 lead.

Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, who played in the fifth match, also succeeded in picking up points. He won in straight sets 21-19 and 21-14 against Sitthikom Thammasin.

Furthermore, Indonesia will face South Korea in the final match of the group stage. Both teams will win the status of group winners in the duel.

Indonesia and Korea so far have not been defeated. Before winning against Thailand, Indonesia had already defeated Singapore, while Korea beat Thailand in the first match, followed by victory against Singapore.
