JAKARTA - Lenovo's Ducati racer, Francesco Bagnaia, doesn't want to throw in the white towel as a sign of giving up on the race for the 2022 MotoGP title. Although he is now quite far behind, he admits that he still has a chance.

Francesco Bagnaia is now in 10th place with 31 points. He is 38 points adrift of Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins who occupy positions one and two of the 2022 MotoGP riders' standings.

With the 2022 season having only played five series, the opportunity to bounce back is still wide open.

"I will stop thinking about the championship only when I have no more opportunities and this is not the case. I am 38 points behind, last year I was 70 points behind with six races remaining," said Francesco Bagnaia as quoted by GPOne.

"I will not give up. I was just unlucky yesterday," he continued.

Bagnaia himself had to race with pain in MotoGP Portugal, last weekend. This is the aftermath of a shoulder injury he suffered after a fall in the qualifying session.

Although not in a fit condition, Francesco Bagnaia was able to look extraordinary at the Alvagre Circuit, Portimao. Starting the race from 24th position, the Italian rider managed to finish in eighth position.

"My shoulder hurts a lot, it's very difficult to ride, but I'm happy to have a fantastic feeling with my bike. It makes things easier and I can climb a few positions," said Valentino Rossi's student.

"I struggled when braking and when changing direction. Then I started to feel better. After passing the riders in front of me, I was able to appear fast," he continued.

After the Portuguese MotoGP race, the former Pramac Ducati rider immediately returned to Italy. He will undergo further examination regarding his shoulder injury.

"There's something missing in my ligaments," Bagnaia said.

The next 2022 MotoGP race will be held at the Jerez Circuit, Spain. According to him, this track is very suitable for the Ducati Desmosedici motorcycle.

"Last year we finished first and second, even though Fabio was the fastest but he has a problem with his arm. I hope to get back to work on the right track, like we did in Austin and here (Portimao). We have to keep going like this, getting points. which we deserve," concluded Francesco Bagnaia.
