Suggesting Marquez To Wait 6 Months To Race Again, Doctor: Different Deadlines Due To Different Athlete Needs

JAKARTA - Ophthalmologist Joseph Visa advised Marc Marquez to wait for another six months to return to the track. The Repsol Honda rider again experienced diplopia or double vision after falling during the warm-up session at the Mandalika MotoGP on March 20.

Quoted from Crash, Monday, Visa said that Marquez's diplopia could have improved without treatment or surgical options. However, he suggested a gap of six months in order to be able to go through an observation period in which many possibilities occur in the third or fourth month.

"Often encountered, without any treatment diplopia improves, as experienced by Marquez late last year. I always recommend waiting six months and if there is no progress in the third or fourth month we recommend further treatment," Visa explained.

This diplopia case itself is not the first time Marquez has experienced, this is the third time because at the end of last year he also experienced the same complaint. However, fortunately, at the end of last year, Marquez did not get on the operating table to make his vision return to normal.

"However, it must be noted that everyone has their own needs and in this case like elite athletes, the deadlines must be different because their needs are different."

Although Marquez has experienced diplopia several times and regardless of the decision to undergo surgery or not, Visa assesses that the rider with number 93 can still appear competitive on the track.

"Either with time or with surgery, it's something that can be fixed so he can live a normal life and I would also say he can compete," Visa said.

Regarding the diplopia he experienced, Marquez will again undergo a follow-up examination on Monday, March 28. The examination will determine whether Marquez will be able to participate and be eligible to participate in the third MotoGP series in Argentina, which will take place from April 1-3.
