Arsenal Silenced Leicester City, Thomas Partey And Martin Odegaard Reap Praise From Mikel Arteta

JAKARTA - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the performances of Martin Odegaard and Thomas Partey when his team silenced Leicester City in the 2021/2022 Premier League continuation week, Sunday, March 13. Appearing in front of their own supporters, the Gunners won 2-0 over Leicester.

Thomas Partey scored two of Arsenal's winning goals in the 11th minute and Alexandre Lacazette's penalty when the game entered the 59th minute.

Apart from scoring goals, Partey also played a key role behind Lacazette's penalty prize. That's why Arteta didn't hesitate to pay tribute to Partey.

"You could see he (Thomas Partey) was voted the best player last month. He has consistency and minutes. He understands what we want much better," Arteta was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"I think his cohesion and understanding with the rest of the players is getting better and better and now it's about consistency and continuing to do that," he added.

Not only Partey, Arteta also praised Martin Odegaard's performance in this match. Although he did not list his name on the scoreboard, according to him, Odegaard was able to play well by creating a number of opportunities.

"He (Martin Odegaard) was great again today, in every aspect of the game. What he has to do defensively, in the attacking phase of the final third, the way he understands and manages the game when he is needed," Arteta said praising Odegaard.

"He has come a long way since his arrival, he shows great maturity and responsibility on the pitch and he makes other players better."

An additional three points thanks to the victory over Leicester has made Arsenal now into the top four of the Premier League standings with 51 points. They are only one point ahead of Manchester United who occupy fifth position.
