Electric Short Circuit, Elderly Couple Burned To Death In Bungur Senen Central Jakarta

A pair of elderly people were found burned to death when a fire broke out on their home on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, RT 01/09, Bungur Village, Senen District, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 30, at dawn at around 04.23 WIB.

The two victims who died as a result of the fire were known to be Tjhin Bie Tjhan (70) and Tjong Lili (68). They died because they were trapped in a fire at the location of the fire.

"It's true, 2 residents died as a result of the fire. The victim's initials TBT (70) was first found on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the victim with the initials TL (68) was found on the 1st floor," said Head of Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Asril Rizal when confirmed by VOI, Monday, December 30, morning.

The fire incident at the resident's house was caused by a short circuit in an electric cable. Initially, the fire was discovered by employees of a restaurant who wanted to cook in the kitchen.

"Witness with the initials A saw sparks from the power cable. Then the witness immediately came out asking for help, but the sparks had spread and grew," he said.

The fire then spread to three other houses and grew bigger. Residents reported the fire incident to the Central Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept.

"We deployed 20 fire engines with the deployment of 100 people. The fire was extinguished at 07.30 WIB," he said.

Meanwhile, in the process of extinguishing the fire, officers were constrained by water supply because there were no water sources while doing the watering.

"The holds of water sources are far away," he added.

After the fire extinguishing process, the area of the object caught fire was around 10 x 22 square meters. Officers have not been able to estimate the total loss due to the fire.

"There are 3 burning buildings," he said.

Meanwhile, the two victims who died have been taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for a post-mortem et Repertum. Meanwhile, the fire case is under investigation by the Central Jakarta Metro Police.
