South Jakarta City Government Finds Fish Containing Formalin In Several Markets

JAKARTA - The City Government (Pemkot) of South Jakarta conducted sudden inspections (sidak) in a number of markets and supermarkets ahead of Christmas and the new year 2025, Thursday, December 19. As a result, a number of foodstuffs containing harmful substances were found.

The South Jakarta City Government together with the DKI Jakarta Food and Drug Supervision Center (BBPOM) in a number of markets, such as Warung Buncit Market, Mayestik Market, Jagakarsa Supermarket Dragon, and in Pasar Minggu area.

BBPOM takes 150 samples from agricultural products, livestock, fisheries, and processed products and is directly tested in the laboratory. As a result, it was found that one sample of fish contained a harmful substance formaldehyde.

"I have ordered to directly check where the food, which contains this dangerous substance, so that unhealthy fishery products do not enter the markets again," said South Jakarta Mayor Munjirin in his statement, Thursday, December 19.

He hopes that with this inspection, there will be no more hazardous food ingredients circulating in all markets in South Jakarta.

"We hope that foods sold in markets and supermarkets are free from harmful materials such as formalin, chlorine, eber, and pesticide residues ahead of Christmas and the new year," he said.
