BANTUL - The Bantul Regency Transportation Agency, Yogyakarta Special Region, issued a notification letter to caroseri entrepreneurs and motor vehicle public workshops not to serve the manufacture, assembly, and modification of rabbits and mini trains.
The head of the Bantul Transportation Agency, Singgih Riyadi, said that the letter was issued on November 13, 2023, based on Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. Every day, many rabbits are free to operate on the highway.
"In Bantul Regency, it turns out that there are two places that produce mini-carriages or rabbits, one of which is in the Piyungan area," he said in Bantul, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, November 21.
According to him, the rabbit train does not include vehicles that are like operating on the highway. It was proven that many rabbits were overturned while carrying dozens of residents on Gatak-Sumberwatu Street, Prambanan, Sleman, DIY, on Sunday.
"Even though the vehicle is not roadworthy, and legally it does not meet vehicle type tests, the risk is very large. From that we agreed to provide socialization as well as notification to the manufacturing workshop," he said.
Singgih said, as a tangible manifestation of maintaining safety, the Transportation Agency together with the Resort Police (Polres) have visited a labe train manufacturing workshop in Piyungan, and repair shop owners are willing to stop the production of rabbits.
"Yesterday we visited one of the workshops that produced the rabbits, at that time received our explanation, and claimed to be able to stop the production of rabbits," he said.
However, he said, the Bantul Transportation Agency did not prohibit rabbits operating in the Bantul tourist attraction area, because the scope of tourist destinations was not as busy as traffic on the highway and tended to be safer.
"If the rabbit train operates in a tourist attraction, it's okay, the scope is only limited. But if it is operational on public roads with enforcement authority in the police, if we are more about producing workshops," he said.
