DPR: Government Must Ensure Year-End Holidays Are Safe And Comfortable Without Disasters

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI, Saleh Partaonan Daulay asked the Government to pay attention to the security, peace and comfort of the community at the end of this year's holiday.

The reason is, the moment of the Christmas and New Year holidays this time coincides with the rainy season, so there are many potential disasters that may occur in Indonesia.

"We have read the news of a disaster that has occurred. There were landslides, flash floods, accidents, and fires. Many victims were grieving. Some even their families died as a result of the disaster," Saleh said in his statement, Friday, December 27.

According to Saleh, the incident continues every year as if the government did not anticipate. In fact, BMKG, BNPB, and other government institutions have warned long ago. Unfortunately, the anticipation is not able to prevent a disaster.

"The holiday season should people look for pleasure. At least once a year people relax and calm their minds. Then after the holiday Naru, they will fight again to take care of their wives, children and families," said Saleh.

"Therefore, the government should maintain this Naru holiday. Proactively, serious efforts must be made to protect the community. Because in my opinion, giving happiness to the hearts of the people is also the fundamental task of the government," continued the former chairman of the PAN faction of the DPR.

Therefore, Saleh said, the Ministry of Tourism must coordinate with related parties. He considered that there must be monitoring officers in all tourist attractions, not only Ministry of Tourism employees, but also other agencies.

"Ada pemerintah daerah, kepolisian, ormas, kelompok peduli pariwisata, dan lain-lain. Pemerintah tidak bisa mengerjakan ini sendiri. Semua pihak harus dilibatkan sesuai dengan bidang dan kemampuan masing-masing," tegasnya.

"In principle, don't change joy into grief. This is a test stone for the new minister of tourism. It's not easy. But if it works, everyone will give appreciation," concluded the legislator for the North Sumatra II electoral district.
