Si Jago Merah Lalap TPA Alak Kupang Completely Extinguished, City Government Revoked Fire Alert Status

The red rooster who engulfed the Alak Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Kupang has been completely extinguished. The Kupang City Government (Pemkot) then revoked the fire emergency alert status at that location.

Acting Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Kupang City, Ade Manafe, said that with the revocation of the status, it would only take 12 days.

"The status should have been given or valid for 14 days, but because it has been handled, it has been revoked," he said, November 20, was confiscated by Antara.

The Alak TPA fire occurred on October 13, 2023. The TPA fire resulted in approximately three hectares of land covered in burned waste.

Smoke and smell from burned waste spread to a number of areas in Alak District, making it difficult for residents to move outside the home.

Ade added that the budget for the emergency status of the fire at the Alak TPA, uses an unexpected budget of Rp. 400 million. However, because the handling is only 12 days, the use of the budget is only Rp. 200 million more.

"It should be Rp. 400 million, but the handling is only 12 days, so the use of the budget is only up to Rp. 200 million," he said.

Head of the Kupang City Health Office, Retnowati, said that her party would continue to monitor the health of the people living around the burning TPA area.

Because last week there were around 800 people who were diagnosed with acute respiratory infection (ARI) due to too long inhaling smoke from a number of burned waste in the TPA.

"We will continue to provide health services even though the emergency status has been revoked," he said.

Based on the report he received for the ISPA case or acute respiratory tract infection itself, it has been much reduced from before, many have recovered or been handled properly, but he himself has not been able to confirm the recovery data of the people infected with the ISPA.
