The Mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution appreciated the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) for choosing Medan City to build the Medan Binjai and Deli Serdang (Medan) Rapid Transit (BRT) projects.
"We certainly thank you, because it is not only the city of Medan that wants this project," Bobby said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 16.
Bobby said there are still many cities and regions not only in Sumatra, but also in Java wanting this project from the Ministry of Transportation.
The mayor said that the BRT Medan project was in line with the wishes of the Medan City Government which encouraged the people of Medan City to switch from using private vehicles to public transportation.
The Ministry of Transportation said that the development of the BRT Medangan infrastructure was financed by development partners, namely the World Bank and French AFD at a cost of IDR 1.9 trillion.

The Medan City Transportation Service said that the detailed engineering design (DED) of the Medan City BRT service is targeted for completion at the end of November 2023, the BRT Medan field route in January 2024, and the laying of the first stone in February 2024.
"To support the shift of people using public transportation, it must be followed by improvement of facilities, both bus and track facilities (paths) are getting wider," he said.
Bobby also revealed that the residents of Medan City at night amounted to around 2.5 million people, while in the morning and evening it reached five million people.
This happened due to many people in Medan City and its surroundings who carried out economic activities in the capital city of North Sumatra Province.
"Moreover, Medan City is the capital city of North Sumatra Province, so the mobility of people in Medan City is very high," said Bobby.
