Prosecutors at the East Jakarta District Court have demanded human rights activist Fatia Maulidyanti with a sentence of 3.5 years in prison for defamation of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pangjaitan.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) led by Shandy Handika assessed that Fatiater was legally and convincingly proven according to law guilty of defamation as stipulated in Article 27 paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph 3 of the ITE Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code as in the first indictment.

"Punishing Fatia Maulidiyanti to serve a prison sentence of 3 years and six months with the defendant's order to be immediately detained," said the Public Prosecutor reading the indictment at the trial at the East Jakarta District Court, Cakung, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, November 13.

Fatia was also demanded a fine of Rp. 500 thousand, subsidiary to three months in prison.

According to him, there are several things that incriminate Fatia, namely, the defendant did not admit and did not regret his actions; the defendant in carrying out a criminal act took refuge and seemed to be on behalf of environmental fighters.

"The mitigating thing is that the defendant is polite and does not demean the dignity of the judiciary," he said.

Previously, Fatia and Executive Director of Lokataru Haris Azhar were charged with defaming Coordinating Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Haris and Fatia's statement in a video uploaded via Haris' YouTube account has defamed Luhut.

The video is entitled 'There is Lord Luhut behind Intan Jaya's economic-ops military relations!! There is also General BIN 1! > NgeHAMtam'. They discussed a quick study of the Coalition to Clean Indonesia with the title 'Military Placement Economics' in Papua: Intan Jaya Case' which shows Luhut's involvement.

In the process of running, a number of witnesses including Luhut have testified before the panel of judges. Meanwhile, Haris and Fatia refused to testify with each other.
