JAKARTA The Indonesian nation is said to be losing a just political spirit after Gibran Rakabuming Raka ran as a candidate for vice president to accompany Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election.

According to a political observer from Exposit Strategic, Arif Sutanto, if Gibran's candidacy is continued, Indonesia will again be trapped in the old political style, where nepotism is considered normal and ethical violations are considered acceptable as long as it does not violate the law.

"Later on, our politics and law will be trapped in the formalism and if that happens, this country will lose a just political spirit," said Arif in his statement, Sunday, November 12.

In addition, Gibran's progress is feared to have the potential to affect the neutrality of state institutions. Arif revealed that this potential does not have to be intentional (by attention), but indirectly.

Because, it is possible that there are people who work in government agencies who idolize Jokowi and then feel that helping Jokowi is in accordance with his wishes.

"The problem is, if it is done then it is not impossible to start from bureaucratic neutrality, the neutrality of the TNI-Polri can be disrupted," Arif added.

He emphasized that this could actually be avoided if Jokowi acted as a statesman and wanted to avoid potential conflicts of interest. Gibran's advancement as a vice presidential candidate when Jokowi was still president violated priority.

According to him, there is a difference between the demands of appropriateness for ordinary people and the virtues of leaders such as President Jokowi. Against the leader, the demands are more than just appropriateness, namely priority. Included in priority is that leaders are willing to avoid something that has potential conflicts of interest," said Arif.
