Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the appointment of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej as a suspect proves that the Corruption Eradication Commission is indiscriminate.
"In my opinion, the KPK when it comes to law enforcement must be indiscriminate and that is proven. Although there is still a lot of criticism of the KPK, the KPK has proven it by not choosing between ministers, deputy ministers, regional heads, or all of them. That should be the case," Mahfud said after the Hero's Day commemoration ceremony at TMP Kalibata, Jakarta, Antara, Friday, November 10.
Mahfud explained, when naming someone as a suspect, the KPK must have had two pieces of evidence showing that acts of corruption or money laundering actually occurred.
"We just have to test the evidence in court. We'll see the legal process going on," said Mahfud.
Previously, the KPK had signed a letter determining Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej alias Eddy Hiariej as a suspect in the alleged bribery case about two weeks ago.
Apart from Eddy, the KPK named three other suspects in the investigation of the alleged corruption case.
Eddy Hiariej was reported by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) to the KPK on suspicion of gratification amounting to Rp7 billion.
IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso on March 14, 2023 reported Yogi Ari Rukmana as Eddy Hiariej's personal assistant and advocate Yosie Andika Mulyadi to the KPK on suspicion of receiving gratuities worth IDR 7 billion related to consultation and assistance for ratifying a company's legal entity.
However, Eddy Hiariej's attorney, Ricky Herbert Parulian Sitohang, denied the allegations regarding the acceptance of gratuities.
He revealed that the money Yosi received was purely the fee he received for his job as a lawyer.
Ricky also emphasized that the client and his client did not even know what Yosi was doing.
