TANJUNGPINANG - The Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has named an executive official of the operational operations of the Bestari People's Credit Bank (BPR) Tanjungpinang City with the initials AF as a suspect in alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU).

"On November 8, 2023, the Special Criminal Investigation Team of the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office has named the suspect AF, as the operational executive official at BPR Bestari Tanjungpinang," said Head of the Legal Information Section (Kasipenkum) of the Riau Islands Attorney General's Office, Denny Anteng Prakoso, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 9.

Denny said the modus operandi carried out by suspect AF was to withdraw customer savings, disburse customer deposits and withdraw cash on BPR Bestari's giro account at Bank Mitra without going through applicable regulations.

"The estimated loss is around Rp. 6 billion," he said.

Suspect AF violated Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, Subsidies Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption.

Meanwhile, Article 3 and or Article 4 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 2010 concerning the Prevention and Eradication of the Crime of Money Laundering.

The Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office has raised the status of the investigation to investigate allegations of corruption at BPR Bestari Tanjungpinang in August 2023.
