Jakarta Starts Rainy Season, Residents Asked To Beware Of Electricity Leaks

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that Jakarta and its surroundings had entered the beginning of the rainy season. This is marked by the increasing intensity of rainfall.

PLN Jakarta's Main Distribution Unit (UID) appealed to Jakarta residents to be aware of electricity leaks when it rains and floods.

General Manager of PLN UID Jakarta Raya, Lasiran said residents need to ensure that the power lines around us are wrapped and the cable connection is perfectly isolated. So that it cannot deliver the outflow and endanger anyone who touches it.

"People should use electricity legally, both for homes and public facilities. Taking electricity from the direct pole is very dangerous because it could be that the cable is not standard and the connection is peeling off, it is very dangerous especially when it rains because the water is a conductor and it is an illegal act," Lasiran said in his statement, Monday, November 6.

If there is heavy rain, make sure it is in the shade and far from the electricity grid such as an electric pole. When the water level starts to rise, residents are asked to immediately remove the electricity plugs that are below and increase the electronic equipment to a higher place.

Then, if the water begins to enter the house, immediately turn off the electricity from kWh meter by pressing the circuit barrier meter (MCB) down.

"Public safety is the most important thing, therefore just turn off the electricity independently at home from the direct meter," he said.

Then, if there has been a flood and PLN has not turned off the electricity in the area, Lasiran asks residents to immediately report it via PLN Mobile or contact center PLN 123 to ask for the power to be turned off from the distribution substation.

"PLN will patrol to comb flood areas and immediately turn off electricity from distribution substations. However, the role of the community to report is very important," said Lasiran.

He explained that the process of re-ignoring electricity in flood-affected areas would be carried out after the water had receded and there was an agreement to sign a report on the re-ignition of electricity between PLN and local community leaders.

This is done to ensure that areas that were affected by the flood are safe to be electrified again by PLN.
