BP2MI Strengthens Sikat Syndicate Task Force To Improve Migrant Worker Governance

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) continues to strengthen the solidity of the Sindikat Brush Task Force. This is so that the governance of the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) is getting better.

"I hope that in the midst of our limitations, this Task Force will accelerate the improvement of the governance of the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers," said Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

He said there were three crimes against Indonesian migrant workers, namely public frameworks to officials who considered Indonesian migrant workers low, rent-seeking practices to oppress Indonesian migrant workers, and illegal placements protected by government officials.

"We have to do work that contains breakthroughs and innovations. We should create changes and leave legacy recorded in history," said Benny quoting Antara.

To strengthen all of this, Benny emphasized that the collaboration with the Task Force for the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) led directly by the National Police Chief, as well as Kawan PMI in the regions will continue to be strengthened.

On that occasion, the Chairperson of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) who is also the Chairman of the Board of Experts of the Skatit Sindikat Task Force, Hasto Atmojo Suroyo, said that the presence of the Skikat Sindikat Task Force is expected to provide an alternative solution to the handling of the problem of illegal placement of Indonesian migrant workers.

"This task force needs to provide input on regional maps, namely different patterns, modes and syndication problems for each region, and of course it requires different strategies and treatments," he said.

Furthermore, he said, the mapping of Ministries/Institutions and their authority instruments related to the task of this Task Force.

"This is done to avoid overlapping authority and sectoral egos between institutions," he said.

Deputy Chairman III of the Steering Committee of the Sikat Syndicate Task Force, Father Beni Soesetyo, said the existence of the Task Force would only be effective by strengthening its authority as evidence of the government's seriousness in handling the illegal placement of Indonesian migrant workers.

"We are dealing with structured syndicates, which moral humanity is not their habituation. Their perspective is to seek maximum profit even though they have to sacrifice others," he said.

According to him, efforts to eradicate TIP syndicates will only be successful if there are political will from the state, through actions and actions.

"If there is no action, it only ends as a slogan, and the existence of this Task Force is only an accessory," he said.
