Ministry Of Health Reveals Monkeypox Cases In Jakarta Due To Risky Sex

JAKARTA - Director General of Disease Prevention and Control Maxi Rein Rondonuwu revealed the cause of the emergence of a number of cases of monkeypox or monkeypox currently detected in Jakarta.

Maxi revealed that the monkeypox case that attacked Jakarta residents was caused by risky sex behavior. Currently, there are 7 active cases of monkeypox and 1 case that was detected in August 2022.

The details are 1 case from Jatinegara, Mampang 1 case, Kebayoran Lama 1 case, Setiabudi 2 cases, Grogol Petamburan 1 case, and Kembangan 1 case.

"Based on the results of laboratory examinations, until now we have found 7 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Indonesia this year. All confirmed cases were found in the DKI Jakarta area," said Maxi in his statement, Monday, October 23.

Based on data records, all confirmed monkeypox patients in Jakarta are men of productive age.

The majority or about 71 percent are men aged 25-29 years, while 29 percent of them are men aged 30-39 years.

"From the search results, it is known that 6 monkeypox patients are also people with HIV (ODHIV), and have bisexual orientation," he explained.

The symptoms seen in the seven active cases of monkeypox are the emergence of lesions and red rashes, and followed by fever, enlargement of lymph nodes, sore sore throat, myalgia, rash, and difficulty swallowing.

Currently, all patients are undergoing intensive care in isolation rooms in a number of hospitals in Jakarta. Treatment will be carried out until the wound drys out perfectly.

"For conditions, everything is good and stable. We monitor closely and continuously. Currently, we are also monitoring parties who are in close contact with patients," he explained.
