YOGYAKARTA Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) have been officially registered as presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election. Check out Anies Baswedan's profile and track record.

Previously, Anies and Cak Imin visited the General Election Commission (KPU) building, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 19, 2023 to register as presidential and vice presidential candidates for the General Election which will be held on February 14, 2024.

At 10.13 WIB, Anies-Muhaimin symbolically handed over registration requirements documents to KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari in the KPU main room. They were accompanied by the General Chairperson of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh, PKS General Chair Ahmad Syaikhu, and PKB Secretary General Hasanuddin Wahid.

Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar became the first presidential and vice presidential candidate candidates to register as candidates for the 2024 presidential election. They were promoted by the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP) driven by NasDem, PKS, and PKB.

Anies Baswedan was born in Kuningan, West Java on May 7, 1969. His father, Rasyid Baswedan, is a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, Islamic University of Indonesia. Anies is the grandson of H. Abdurrahman Baswedan or known as AR Baswedan, a national hero and is known as a nationalist, journalist, Indonesian freedom fighter, diplomat, preacher, and writer.

Speaking of Anies' track record, his name began to be highlighted when he became a spokesman for the candidate pair of presidential candidates Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kala in the 2014 presidential election.

After Jokowi was elected President, Anies was appointed Minister of Education and Culture. He was trusted by Jokowi to improve education in the country. Anies' appointment as Minister of Education and Culture was none other than because his track record as an Indonesian Teaching pioneer.

Anies' first breakthrough when he served as Minister of Education and Culture was to postpone the implementation of the 2012 Curriculum and use the Education Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP). However, he still applies the 2013 curriculum on a limited basis in several schools.

During Anies' time as minister, the National Examination was not a benchmark for student graduation. In addition, the controversial School Orientation Period (MOS) was also abolished and replaced by the School Environment.

After two years serving as Minister of Education and Culture, Anies was reshuffled by Jokowi on July 27, 2016. His position was later replaced by Muhadjir Effendy.

After being removed by Jokowi, Anies tried his luck in the election of the Governor of DKI Jakarta. He was paired with Sandiaga Uno and promoted by the Gerindra Party which became Jokowi's opponent in the 2014 presidential election.

In the DKI Pilgub, the KPU declared Anies the winner after competing closely with the incumbent, namely Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.

At the beginning of his reign as Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies managed to boost economic growth in the capital city by 6.2 percent in the first semester of 2017. A year later, Jakarta's economy grew 6.11 percent.

Then, in 2019, economic growth contracted to 5.82 percent. This figure continues to fall to 5.25 percent after Indonesia was hit by COVID-19.

In the 2021 semester, Jakarta's economy will rise again to 3.56 percent. And at the end of Anies Baswedan's term of office, the Jakarta economy grew 5.25 percent.

In terms of the Human Development Index (HDI), Anies Baswedan's leadership continues to increase. In 2017, HDI reached 80.60 percent, and rose again to 80.76 percent in 2019.

Then in 2020, HDI will be 80.77 percent, and in 2021 HDI will increase to 81.11 percent. The HDI number is more than 80, including a very high number in the national HDI category.

On October 16, 2022, Anies Baswedan retired as Governor of DKI Jakarta. Two weeks before his retirement, Anies was declared NasDem as a presidential candidate for the 2024 General Election.
