JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono emphasized that he would not remove the bicycle lane even if he dismantled the barrier or stick cone of the bicycle lane on a number of roads.

"Based on the Kadishub report, the stick cone was damaged by the vehicle. So for security, it was revoked. It didn't delete the bicycle lane, you know. It's just that the damaged stick cone has been taken," said Heru at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, October 18.

Heru said that the DKI Provincial Government is still evaluating the effectiveness of bicycle lanes with barriers on several roads. The evaluation of this bicycle lane has a budget of IDR 2 billion.

"Evaluation, later we will see at the end of the year what the evaluation is. I am not antipathy (that) the bicycle lane is not built, no. Certain places, if it is needed according to the bicycle lane, then please," said Heru.

Along with this, the marker of bicycle lanes also continues to be improved. The improvement and optimization of existing bicycle lanes is budgeted at IDR 5 billion in the 2023 APBD.

"Next, the existing bicycle lanes are tidied up. The paint treatment is not good, so the paint is back. If the image (trade) of the bicycle is only a tire, it is drawn again," he added.

Previously, the Chairman of Bike to Work (B2W) Indonesia Fahmi Saimima expressed his disappointment over the demolition of the bicycle lane stick or stick cone on 13 roads in Jakarta.

The gradually lifted bicycle lane barriers were carried out on Jalan Army Students, Jalan Kramat Raya, Jalan Hos Cokroaminoto, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jalan Purification.

Then, Jalan Salemba Raya, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Jalan RP Soeroso, Jalan Dr. Sutomo, Jalan Tugu Tani, Jalan Teuku Cik Ditiro, and Jalan Pra Soldier KKO Usman.

The head of the cyclist community views that the DKI Provincial Government is not running the government system properly because it has dismantled bicycle users' safety facilities.

"We are really very disappointed and this can be called governance malpractice," Fahmi told reporters, Wednesday, October 18.

Fahmi said that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency did not carry out the mandate in Regional Regulation Number 7 of 2012 concerning Public Infrastructure, Facilities and Utilities.

If the reason for dismantling the stick cone on the bicycle lane is done so as not to endanger motorists, Fahmi said this would not make sense.

"The reason is unacceptable. The bicycle lane has gone through a long road of study, even supervision is carried out with international institutions," he said.
