Officers Still Searching Spots That Have the Potential to Cause Fires in Way Kambas National Park

LAMPUNG - Public Relations of the Way Kambas National Park Office (TNWK) Sukatmoko said that officers are still combing through spots that have the potential to cause fires in the forest area.

"Regarding the development of the fire at TNWK, now the fire has started to be extinguished, but officers are still keeping watch, combing through remaining embers which might cause a fire again", said Sukatmoko when contacted from Bandarlampung, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 6.

The land fire in WKNP that occurred four days ago or Monday, October 2, has burned approximately 200 hectares of land out of the Waykambas area which reaches approximately 125,621 hectares.

"Friends are still taking precautions considering that the current conditions are very hot and the wind is strong, so it is feared that there will still be remaining embers that could start a fire again after the fire is extinguished", he said again.

He also revealed that the fire started four days ago and could only be extinguished today because it was difficult to reach the burning location by vehicle. So in the extinguishing process, officers together with the TNI and Polri as well as TNWK partners had to extinguish the fire manually.

"So we extinguished the fire using a carrying tank, not using a fire engine, because it was difficult for the burning spot to be reached by vehicle", he also said.

Sukatmoko also said that there were six areas of burnt land in TNWK in the form of dry peatlands and swamps.

"Therefore, we are still continuing to clean up while patrolling to determine whether there are any remaining embers from yesterday's fire", he said again.
