JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, received a visit from 100 of the best high school OSIS Chairs in Indonesia who had the opportunity to conduct a tour building to the people's representative building. Puan praised those who were proficient in speech even though they were still in high school.

Thebulding tour activity carried out by 100 OSIS chairmen is an activity organized by the Human Development (HuDev) of the University of Indonesia (UI) with the title Indonesian Student Leadership Camp 2023 (ISLC 2023).

The program, which has been implemented since 2011, has placed HuDev UI in providing guidance and development for the Chairman of Osis throughout Indonesia.

Arriving at the people's representative building, Monday, September 25, the group of OSIS chairmen was greeted by the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR RI, Ahmad Basarah and Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Agustina Wilujeng. They were also given the opportunity to see firsthand the Plenary Session Room.

After the bulking tour, one of the students in the tour group was challenged by Puan to give a direct oration. With confidence, the student gave an oration without preparation.

Hearing such a good oration from the student, Puan admitted that she was proud of her courage to appear in front of many people. According to him, not everyone has confidence when performing was seen by many people.

"You guys are luckier than me. In the past, I couldn't even go to college, I couldn't give a speech. You guys are still in high school and you can give a speech," said Puan.

Puan shared her experience when she first entered politics about 20 years ago. Puan admitted that she had many things to learn, including public speeches.

"I used to be onion children, I couldn't even give a speech. I just got that speech after I entered the DPR. I used to go forward, it was shaking. Cold relief up to a big corn. Even though the audience was only 20-50 people," he said.

"Until someone says: 'this is how Bung Karno's grandson doesn't give a speech. Bung Karno orator, right, especially in the past, his speech was passionate," continued Puan.

Over time, Puan admitted that she was used to delivering speeches. Therefore, he admitted that he was amazed by the achievements of today's young people who were great when delivering speeches.

On this occasion, Puan also explained what the duties and work carried out by the DPR were. Starting from the preparation of legislation, state budgets, to monitoring government programs and policies.

One of the main tasks of the DPR is to make laws together with the Government. The process of making this law starts from the preparation of draft laws, discussions in DPR commissions, to voting in plenary meetings," he explained.

"The DPR also has the authority to ratify or reject the state budget, as well as supervise the implementation of government programs," added Puan.

Not only that, Puan explained that members of the DPR are representatives of the people who are elected through the Legislative Election (Pileg). They represent the voices and aspirations of the people at the national level.

"Because the people are chosen, the DPR must listen and take action based on input and the interests of the people," said Puan.

"That's why I opened the door in the DPR, we were open. Like an Internship in a People's House. I want to open the view, the thoughts of all brothers and sisters that what the DPR really looks like," continued the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

For the past few years, the DPR has had an Internship program at the People's House which is part of the independent campus activities. Puan initiated the field course for several months with the aim of strengthening students' perspectives in knowing the duties and functions of the DPR which have only been studied in a textbook.

"Later, when we are students, we can try to do an internship here. We work together for the people and for the benefit of the people," said Puan.

Puan also hopes that the visit of the elected OSIS chairman can increase the quota every year. That way, more and more young people understand the work and duties of the DPR.

"I hope this can be a very valuable experience for you. This is something positive so that young people represented by 100 OSIS leaders from all over the province can experience, see firsthand and gain experience," he explained.

"I hope this activity can take place every year. In order to know the work and performance of the DPR so that perceptions are not missed, so it is not considered that the DPR is not doing anything, the DPR is not working. We work, we work for the people. But work is not as easy as turning the palms of hands, it takes a process, "added Puan.

Bung Karno's grandson also supports students who aspire to become members of the DPR. Puan said that the next generation of the nation must be enthusiastic and continue to strive to achieve their goals to build the nation and state.

"But the name of the people's representatives must be strongly criticized, the important thing is that we work for the people and according to the regulations," he said.

Through this activity, Puan also encouraged the younger generation of women to become more members of the DPR. He hopes that the quota of 30 percent of women in parliament can be realized.

"Because women can, are able, and willing, to fight and fight for what they believe in building the nation and state. So I encourage the 30 percent representation in the DPR to be achieved in the not too distant future," said Puan.
