North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Detains Vice Chancellor II Univa Labuhanbatu, A Suspect In Corruption Of A Smart Indonesia Card

The Special Criminal Investigation Team of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) detained the Deputy Chancellor II of Al Washliyah University (Univa) Labuhanbatu with the initials MAR in the alleged corruption case of the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud).

In addition, the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office also detained partners, namely three other suspects from the private sector with the initials SH, RK and HN (each separate file).

"This case began in the 2021-2022 fiscal year from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to provide KIP assistance to 233 students with details of Rp7.2 million per student," said Head of the Legal Information Section of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Yos A Tarigan in Medan, North Sumatra. reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 18.

He explained that from Rp. 7.2 million per student, with details of the cost of education of Rp. 2.4 million and a living cost of Rp. 4.8 million.

The Ministry of Education and Culture transfers tuition fees to Univa campus accounts, while the cost of living is transferred to the accounts of each student.

"The cost of living for students is Rp. 4.8 million per student for the first half of 2021, allegedly extortion has been carried out by suspects MAR and private parties with a variation of Rp. 2.5 million to Rp. 3.1 million per student," he said.

At the time of disbursement of funds from Bank Mandiri Rantauprapat Branch, each student is required to deposit money back to MAR and the private sector who acts as the coordinator to collect money from suspect SH.

He continued that the total cost of living quoted from 321 students was around Rp662 million.

"With details, around Rp. 350 million was quoted by the suspect group MAR and around Rp. 313 million was quoted as saying by the suspect group SH," said Yos.

Therefore, Yos said that the four suspects were charged with Article 2 Subsidiary Article 3 in conjunction with Article 12 letter b, letter e, and letter g of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.

"Meanwhile, the total state losses are still waiting for the results of the calculations by experts," said Yos.

After undergoing a medical examination, MAR and his partner were entrusted to the Medan Class I Detention Center for 20 days from September 18, 2022 to October 7, 2023.
