Grandfather In Ambon Molested Minors Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison, Higher Than The Prosecutor's Demand

AMBON - Grandpa Hasan Somatnya alias Tete Ata, a defendant in a case of assault and molestation against a minor was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The verdict is higher than the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU) of the Ambon Kejari.

In its ruling, the Ambon District Court (PN) Panel of Judges led by Martha Maitimu also sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of Rp. 60 million, subsidiary to six months in prison.

"The defendant was sentenced to 10 years in prison minus the detention period and stated that the defendant remained in detention," said Martha accompanied by two member judges in Ambon, Maluku, Monday, September 18, which was confiscated by Antara.

Martha said the panel of judges stated that the defendant Hasan's address was legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 82 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection.

The aggravating thing for the defendant was sentenced to prison because his actions continued to create trauma and shame on the victim and his family.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor is that the defendant is polite and has never been convicted.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Ambon Prosecutor's Office, Liliya Heluth, in the previous trial charged the defendant with eight years in prison.

"The defendant's actions against the victim who was still a child were carried out three times around April 2023 in a village in Leihitu District (Ambon Island), Central Maluku Regency until it was discovered by his family and reported to the police," explained the public prosecutor.
