Cak Imin Supports Gus Yahya's Attitude Not Bringing NU To Politics

JAKARTA - PKB Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin) agreed with the statement by the General Chairperson of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya) not to bring the big name Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) into practical politics. According to Cak Imin, PKB also supports Gus Yahya's attitude.

"Agreed, that is a decision that must be supported. PKB also supports that attitude," said Cak Imin at the PKS DPP, Friday, September 15.

The Coalition for Change will not have a problem if Gus Yahya does not support his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. Cak Imin assessed that everyone has the right to make their choices in democracy.

It is known that Cak Imin will run as a pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates along with former governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan. His candidacy is often identified as an NU background.

"Yes, democracy gives the freedom of all citizens to make their choices," said Cak Imin.

Previously, PBNU Chairman Gus Yahya emphasized that he was still a member of the PKB. However, he did not attract NU in the interests of organizational practical politics.

"I've never left PKB until today. But as a chairman of PBNU I can't drag NU into PKB. As a ketum, I can't drag NU to other political parties, dragging NU to support this candidate because the organizational norms are not allowed," said Gus Yahya, Friday, September 15.

Dijelaskan Gus Yahya, dirinya memang salah satu pendiri PKB. Saat itu, PBNU meminta agar dibentuk parpol.

"I am the founder of PKB, including, even before being discussed at PBNU, I participated in starting talks with a number of kiai, and I entered the team to prepare documents to be submitted to PBNU," he explained.

But it is emphasized, as an organization, that Gus Yahya separates PBNU's interests from political affairs.

"PBNU can no longer be required to feed the party that was formed. Competing rationally, and we also invite the public, including the citizens of NU, to rationally assess the existing political parties. The rationality is seen, look at the achievements and track records, you don't have to pay attention to claims on behalf of NU," he said.
