Batang Police, Central Java, arrested three suspected dealers and changed the expiration date of food and beverage while securing dozens of evidence of crimes. Batang Police Chief AKBP Saufi Salamun said the disclosure of the case began with public information which was then followed up by officers by conducting investigations and checking goods at the suspect's rented house, Tersono District. "In this check, we found several food and beverage products of various types and brands in partially dirty packaging conditions, there was an inscription that the expiration period had expired, and part of the expiration date had been deleted," he said in Batang, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, September 13. The three suspects arrested had the initials AS (39) and TSS (34), both residents of Kedungbanteng, Banyumas Regency, Central Java, and MS (39), residents of Sidoarjo, East Java. Two suspects, namely AS and TSS, were arrested by the police in Klaten Regency, Central Java, while MS was arrested at his house in Porong, Sidoarjo, East Java. Previously, several food and beverage products were purchased by perpetrators in the East Java region, namely Sidoarjo, Jombang, and Mojokerto in a dirty condition and most of them passed the expiration date. According to him, the items were then cleaned and most of the products were changed to expiration date by removing the packaging using a tiner and tissue liquid. After the writing is deleted, then the packaging is rewritten on the validity date using an expiration date printing machine and then the modified food and beverage products are packaged to be resold to various regions, such as Bandung, Brebes, Cilacap, Malang, and Yogyakarta.

The suspects will be subject to Article 62 in conjunction with Article 8 paragraph (1) letter (d) or letter (a) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection or Article 143 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia 18 of 2012 concerning Food as amended by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 06 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation.
