WEST PAPUA - Police arrested a marijuana dealer with the initials VDUM (29) in Manokwari Regency, Papua. A total of 8 kilograms of marijuana were secured.
West Papua Police Narcotics Director Commissioner Agustinus Fernando Indra Napitupulu said the police arrested VDUM while resting at a hotel on Tuesday, September 12 at around 09.30 WIT.
"The suspect [VDUM] plans to distribute the marijuana in the Manokwari and Sorong (West West Papua) areas," said Indra.
Indra explained that VDUM uses a ship from Jayapura Papua with the intention of distributing marijuana stored in one sack measuring 20 kilograms and three large plastic bags.
According to him, the VDUM suspect not only circulated but also consumed marijuana. Based on the results of the urine examination, it was stated that VDUM was positive for users.
For his actions, VDUM was charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) subsidiary to Article 111 paragraph (2) subsidiary to Article 127 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
"The threat of imprisonment is a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison or a fine of at least Rp. 1 billion," he said.
The arrest of the VDUM suspect began with the Opsnal II Team of the West Papua Police Narcotics Directorate who received information from the public regarding the smuggling of marijuana from Jayapura to Manokwari and Sorong using KM Sinabung on September 7, 2023.
The team then conducted an investigation and increased observations before KM Sinabung docked at the Manokwari Sea Port on September 12, 2023 at 06.30 WIT.
"We will develop this case so that we can dismantle a larger cannabis network because there are dealers," he said.
