Owner Of 25 Cannabis Packages Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison, Ambon District Court Calls It A Strengthening Thing For Not Supporting Government Programs

The Ambon District Court (PN) panel of judges sentenced the defendant Aksel Wattimena to six years in prison in the case of possession of 25 packages of dried marijuana.

"Declare that the defendant is legally and convincingly proven guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and sentenced him to six years in prison," said Chief Justice Martha Maitimu during a trial at the Ambon District Court, Monday, September 11, which was confiscated by Antara.

With the verdict, the defendant remains in detention and pays a court fee of Rp. 2000.

While the mitigating factor, the panel of judges stated that the defendant was polite and admitted and regretted his actions, the defendant had never been convicted.

The verdict of the panel of judges was lighter than the demands of Public Prosecutor Feby Sahepaty, who in his trial demanded the defendant to be in prison for nine years and a fine of Rp. 10 billion, subsidiary to six months in prison.

A number of confiscated evidences were in the form of a cell phone, pieces of aluminum foil, a large clear plastic containing 25 packages packaged using small clear plastic clips, each containing dry plants in the form of leaves, stems and seeds suspected of being narcotics class one type of marijuana being confiscated for destruction.

Based on this decision, both the prosecutor and the defendant through their legal advisor Dino Hulisellan from the LBH Maluku Humanum Institute expressed their thoughts.

The defendant in Aksel on Monday, March 27, 2023, at around 21.30 WIT was secured by members of the Maluku Police Narcotics Directorate in the OSM area, Wainitu Village, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant received a package of goods by his brother from Papua through a freight forwarding company.
