PAN: KPK Doesn't Need To Check Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates If There Is No Corruption Involvement

Deputy Chairperson of PAN Viva Yoga Mauladi also talked about the proposed examination for the prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following the summons of the General Chairperson of the PKB who will also Vice President Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin. According to Viva, the KPK does not need to examine the presidential and vice presidential candidates who will compete in the 2024 presidential election if there is no evidence of involvement in the alleged corruption case. "KPK works based on law. If there is an alleged loss of state money and there is initial evidence of the case, then the KPK can carry out its main duties and authorities. If there is no material evidence for the involvement of prospective candidates, there is no need for the KPK to conduct an examination," said Viva to reporters, Monday, September 11. "Because the KPK is a law enforcement agency in eradicating corruption, not an institution with a clean and clear stamp," he continued. Viva believes that the KPK will continue to maintain credibility, integrity, and professionalism as independent institutions, as well as work to uphold legal and humanitarian justice. Therefore, according to Viva, there is no urgency that the KPK must examine the presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2024. "Once again, because the KPK is not an institution with a clean and clear stamp stamp. But law enforcement agencies are to eradicate corruption in Indonesia," he said. Previously, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI Ahmad Sahroni suggested that all presidential and vice-presidential candidates be examined by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) before the 2024 presidential election. He said this was in response to the summons of the KPK to the General Chairperson of the PKB as well as appointed as assistant to the presidential candidate Anies Baswedan, Muhaimin Iskandar (Cak Imin). According to Sahroni, this step is good to ensure that every pair of candidates who run, are completely free from corruption cases.

"As leaders of Commission III as well as members of the party, I ask the KPK to create an examination program for all presidential and vice presidential candidates. Because in my opinion, in order to maintain the credibility of the KPK and public perceptions, things like this really need to be done by the KPK," said Sahroni in a written statement, September 9.
